One of the most famous temples in Korea, Bulguksa,or "Temple of Buddha Land," was built in 535. It is one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in Korea and has been magnificently restored.

The gardens are lush with pine, plum, peach, pear, cherry, and cryptomeria trees and the Silla style architecture is alive with vivid paintwork. Many of the buildings are the original stone structures and were built without mortar.

The courtyard outside the main worship hall houses two unusual and striking pagodas. The larger of the two is called Dabotap, and the smaller one is referred to as Seokgatap. In 1966, various relics and artifacts, including a scroll of Dharari sutras, golden images of the Buddha, and many other treasures were found inside Seokgatap.

The ground’s oldest and largest structure is the Birojeon, home to a Birojana Buddha who stands in a Diamond First mudra position. Bulguksa is a stunningly beautiful hillside temple and is one of the most precious UNESCO world heritage sites.
